A Ohio State University study has concluded that there is a correlation between low grades and the use of social networking site Facebook. In a finding that is sure to raise some hackles among social networking proponents, Facebook was singled out as one network that could adversely affect academic performance.
The study found that the real cause of low grades was not social ntworking use per se, but the fact that students were spending less time to study. It may be the case that Facebook users opted to give more tiem to social activities – not necessarily activities participated in online.
Organisations all over the world are faced with the social networkign dilemma: the inability to decide whether online activity enhances or diminishes employee and student productivity. Employers often ban sites like Facebook and MySpace from the workplace. However, other businesses actively use social networking to promote their offerings online.
