As the latest in a series of social networking experiments by Yahoo, the search giant has announced that it is set to launch a new social network. Some analysts say that Yahoo’s massive advertising infrastructure can be effectively leveraged to monetize a new enterprise.
Red Orbit reports that Yahoo’s leadership wants to build upon its existing user base by adding new social networking services across its website assets. Possible integration might be planned with other social networking services like Facebook and MySpace.
Yahoo may also want to create a niche for itself as a dominant player in a specific social market. This need may be amplified by its relative lack of success in Web search.
Previous Yahoo experiments with social networking include Mosh and Kickstart, both of which have been shut down.
