From Internet search to alternative energy, Google has made a mark for itself as a pioneering technology enterprise. Now, for the first time in history, Google is helping good governance in the largest democracy in the world.

Google India is aiding the upcoming general elections in India, a country of over one billion people. The Google India Elections Centre at Google India allows users to participate in the elections from the comfort of their homes. The service will track the elections live with up to the minute updates.

Although people still can’t vote online, voters can confirm their registration through the Google service. Other interesting features include information about candidates, statistical data on constituencies like literacy rates, crime rates and poverty rates.

Also partnering with Google is the Hindustan Times, one of India’s largest newspapers.
