Horror of horrors! Youtube is blocked in China. However, all is not lost.
With the growing numbers of web proxies and other fancy goodies to grace the Intertubes, those residing beyond the Great Firewall still have hope. Chinese residents can still access Youtube by utilizing the various freedom-loving methods we present.

UPDATE: These methods work for Turkey too!

1.  Download videos
If you know the address of any Youtube video, just add pwn before it and it will magically download.

For example, to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlciJCvRjpQ just add pwn to make http://pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=tlciJCvRjpQ

You will be led to a screen where you will be presented with a choice of download either in .mp4 or .flv format.  Take your pick and proceed to pwn your government!

2. Search Youtube

Just like the cuddly Dr. Evil in Austin Powers, bad guys always leave a loophole to be exploited by savvy Internet enthusiasts. By using this particular tip we present below, anybody in China can search Youtube for anything they like, and then download the video through the pwn downloader mentioned above.

To search, head over to http://www.google.cn , and type

site:youtube.com china
site:youtube.com britney spears sucks
site:youtube.com why am i fat

or anything you like

This will give you a list of the relevant Youtube videos. Then just proceed to download the video by copying and pasting the URL in a new browser video, and adding pwn before the youtube.com address.

3. Try direct web proxies.

Web proxies are sites that load the webpage for you so you don’t have to. This means you aren’t directly accessing the webpage but the proxy is doing that for you. Good proxies to try in China are

http://www.accessanywebsite.com
http://www.vtunnel.com
http://www.ctunnel.com

and the aptly named http://www.hidemyass.com

And if you’re more technically inclined, take a shot at Psiphon.

Although this won’t automatically save the world, it sure will help the cause of freedom and democracy – or at the very least let you see some cute cat videos.
